Podcast Naggomsu Organizes Seoul Flash Mob, Draws Huge Crowds

Two of three members of Naggomsu, Kim Uhjoon, CEO of Danji Daily and Ju Jinwoo, reporter at Sisa In, organized a flashmob named “Noggomsu Triumvirate exposure flashmob” in order to show support for Kim Yong-min (covered on koreaBANG for his slurs towards the elderly as well as Christians), now a candidate of the Democratic United Party for Nowon district in Seoul. Based on police estimates, approximately 6,000 people gathered in front of the Seoul City hall for the flashmob, as this YouTube video shows:

CEO Kim and other presenters for Naggomsu arrived in a white Carnival with the open sun-roof, both showing above the waist to parade “Triumvirate”. This was a parody of the controversial ruling of the appearance made by the Saenuri Party leader Park Geun-hye and Son Sujo (Busan Sasang district) last month on the 13th [Park was appeared outside waving from the sunroof, an act that is illegal in Korea. However it was later deemed she had not broken the law, as her appearance through the sunroof was not improvised]. Ju said “He made a lot of mistakes so we thought we lost him but thank you for your support. Please I urge you to flex your ‘voting muscle’”. Flexing the voting muscle, a Twitter neologism, refers to training the muscle used to grab the stamp used in voting. Presenter Tak Hyunmin of Korean Anglican University said “We know all your (Kim Yong-min) mistakes, past wrongs and apologies. Go apologize in the National Assembly, you dumbass.” The flashmob in show of support of Kim chanted ‘JO’, a profanity referring to the male genitals with a missing syllable, with Kim bowing in return. The profanity was used profusely in the podcast. Due to the election campaign regulations, Kim did not make a formal appearance but he held up a cardboard picture of former-Assembly member Jyun instead. He was seen with tears welling up his eyes.

The Twittersphere was abuzz with opinions on the event. @tommy!** wrote “Don’t even withdraw” while @memor** said, “Plenty of smiles and touching moments. I will yell out in my office, JO!” Many other followers of Naggomsu and Kim Yong-min flooded in with other comments in support and amazement at the size of the crowd of people gathered. Support also came from the podcast itself, Naggomsu: In Bongjoo [the third podcaster]’s eleventh episode, Kim expressed the difficulty he had after ‘the coarse language controversy’, in which he said “I did not want to go out. I was completely stripped naked and felt as though I had made fool of all the people who supported me thick and thin.”

Why is it so fun just to look at the people gathered for Nakomsoo? he it’s so addictive he Their effort to break through this absurd society is just so amazing. Kim Uhjoon, Ju Jinho, Jung Bongjo, Kim Yong-min… they will be remembered as our icons in the future. They have already done enough to achieve that status and I wonder how far they will go. And their work is to change South Korea, which is all the more thrilling. This must be the pioneering work where politics and entertainment are wedded into one.
